Netflix’s Korean original series ‘Squid Game’ featuring it’s lead actors Lee Jung-jae, Seo In Guk, and Jung Ho Yeon has become a work that has taken the top spots at least once in all 83 countries where the series is serviced.
According to Flixpatrol, a global online video service (OTT) ranking site, revealed that Netflix’s Korean original series ‘Squid Game’ ranked first in the Indian Netflix TV category, which was the only one left that had not been ranked first.
‘Squid Game’ ranked first in the Indian Netflix TV category and was number one in 81 countries excluding Denmark and Turkey. In these two countries it maintained its number one spot but fell to second place.
The series also took top spot at least once among all 83 countries where the series is serviced: Thailand, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam and Singapore; Malaysia and Philippines; Australia and New Zealand; Japan; Mexico; Brazil;
It is hard to believe that the netflix’s original drama ‘Squid Game’ which only has 9 episodes is competing with Hollywood’s big budget series.
As of September 29th the total score was 829 points, down one point from the previous days, 158 points higher than the second place British original series ‘Otis’ Secret Counseling Center’ (670 points). It continued its number one spot on global popularity rankings for a Tenth consecutive day. This means netizens are paying more attention to Korean dramas in foreign countries.
In India, where there is a high level of loyalty to their own content, the Indian comedy drama ‘Kota Factory’, which depicts the competition between entrance exam students to enter a prestigious university has maintained the top spot. However Netflix’s original series ‘Squid Game’ has risen its way up from number 4 on the 25th of September to eventually taking the number one spot in India as of October 3rd.
The fact that Netflix’s Korean original series took first place in 81 countries excluding Denmark and Turkey shows netizens are paying more attention to Korean dramas outside Korea as well as domestically.
The cast of ‘Squid Game’ is expected to continue the worldwide craze as special guests on the popular NBC talk show ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ in the US.
